If I was diagnosed elsewhere, do I still need an evaluation?

Yes, you will still need to receive a psychiatric evaluation by an ADHD specialist at KEGE Center, even if you were previously diagnosed elsewhere. The purpose of this evaluation is to ensure the accuracy of the previous diagnosis and to rule out any other conditions that may have been missed. This is important because it ensures that you receive the proper treatment and medication dosage and that any co-occurring conditions are identified and treated as well.

During your initial evaluation, your KEGE Center provider will conduct a comprehensive 120-minute psychiatric interview. This interview will include a face-to-face conversation with you, and for children, it will also involve the parents and a review of teacher feedback. Your provider will actively listen to understand your concerns, presenting symptoms, and treatment goals, and assess and rule out any medical causes of your symptoms through laboratory testing or referrals to medical specialists when necessary.

Additionally, your provider will provide you with a thorough education of all treatment options, including medication, non-medication alternatives, and behavioral therapy or coaching. They will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan and discuss what you should expect from the chosen treatment. Follow-up appointments for medication management will also be scheduled in person or by video visit for your convenience.
