What is the age range of the patients you treat?

We typically see children as young as 6 years old and adults up to 55 years old.

At the KEGE Center for ADHD, we provide diagnostic and treatment services for individuals with ADHD across a wide age range. We typically see children as young as 6 years old and adults up to 55 years old. However, it's important to note that ADHD symptoms can be present in children as young as 3 to 5 years old, and girls are often identified later than boys. Moreover, bright children may not be diagnosed until later in life as they may compensate for their difficulties until schoolwork and life demands become more challenging.

For children who are not treated early, their level of functioning may decline when they start junior high and again in high school, resulting in difficulty with social distractions, time management, transitions between classes, and more demanding courses. This can be overwhelming, and irritability, anxiety, and depression may start to appear. We call these co-occurring conditions that develop secondary to ADHD. With proper treatment, these clients can regain focus and a sense of mental control, and as a result, depression and anxiety can quickly resolve.

How ADHD is diagnosed

To ensure that we provide accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans, all new patients receive a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation with a board-certified psychiatric provider. During this evaluation, a primary diagnosis is made with a high degree of certainty, and additional assessment is conducted to determine the presence of any co-occurring conditions associated with ADHD, such as insomnia, mood disruption, anxiety, and others. Research suggests the presence of one or more co-occurring conditions in 70% of children and 47% of adults with diagnosed ADHD.
